Presbyopia

This is the state you reach in your mid 40s, when your arms are just not long enough when you're reading, and you need extra help for close tasks. Contact lenses can be very effective here with the use of Bifocal or Multifocal Lenses, to give vision where different corrections are needed for both distance and close work tasks.

Another popular technique is called Monovision, where one eye is corrected for distance, the other for close work. It may sound strange but has been done on purpose from the late 50s, and possibly by mistake for many years before that! Monovision can be used with most lens types.

Because we are trying to get vision in both distance and reading just right for you, the fitting and assessment of lenses for presbyopia can take a bit longer than for distance-only lenses. Just imagine though the freedom to do close work without having to do the "nodding dog" act like you have to with multifocal spectacles!
