Contact Lenses
Also known as Corneal Refractive
Therapy, these lenses have been used in one way or
another since the late 50s. It is a totally different
technique from usual contact lens fitting, in that
lenses are worn overnight and removed in the morning.
During the overnight wear, the cornea becomes gently
reshaped, allowing clear vision without spectacles or
contact lenses the following day.
Initially lenses may have to be worn every night, but this may reduce to alternate nights, or even less, to maintain optimum vision. Should you wish to stop using the lenses your normal vision will return within ten days.
So What is so Special about Ortho K?
By wearing the lenses overnight, and having to use no lenses during the day, those who experience drying of regular lenses will now have comfortable vision all day with no drying. Those involved with sports, especially swimming and other water sports, can now fully participate in their sports with no worries about lenses or contamination. All the advantages of Refractive Surgery with less of the risk, in a fully reversible procedure. Some research results seem to indicate that use of Ortho K with younger patients might reduce the progression of short-sightedness as the patient grows.
