Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are a speciality of the practice especially for those with sensitive eyes or complex prescriptions as well as the more straightforward fittings. We find that most people can be fitted even if they have previously been told they are unsuitable or have tried before but were unsuccessful.

Contact lenses are available in Rigid Gas Permeable or Soft lens form but we can also fit hybrid, piggy back and scleral lenses. Disposable lenses are available in a range of materials, wear patterns (daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly-wear), sizes and even colours, so we are confident we can find lenses that suit your eyes, your lifestyle and your wallet.
Bifocal and multifocal lenses are available, as well as Overnight Vision Correction, and lenses for non-spherical eyes (astigmatism).

Because we are in independent optician, we stock a wide range of different brand names, including Acuvue, Bausch+Lomb, Ultravision, Clearlab, Johnson and Johnson, Alcon, Coopervision, Menicon and many many more.
If you are new to contact lenses, or want to change your lens type, we would recommend a full eye examination. This will be followed by a contact lens assessment where the front surface of the eye, eyelids, tears and other structures are examined in more detail.

All being well a suitable pair of lenses will be fitted, allowed to settle and the performance and fit evaluated. Full tuition will be given on how to apply and remove the lenses and how to care for them. About two hours should be allowed for this appointment. The next stage would be an extended trial so you can try the lenses at home and at work to ensure their suitability. The length of this trial and the suitability fees charged depends on the type of lens and the modality (how often you wear them), but all of this will be discussed with you upfront.

Proper continuing after-care is of paramount importance with any type of contact lens, to ensure the highest possible standards of comfort and safety. We also operate an out-of-hours support service.

There are no real age limits with contact lens wear with the age of wearers ranging from 6 - 90+. You just need to have the ability to look after them and handle them yourself.

We are members of the International Society of Contact Lens Specialists and Eurpean Academy of Orthokeratology
